Press ReleaseCSS delays release of PacTerm and PKTerm 3.0 due to issues with Microsoft's compiler.Muscle Shoals, Alabama. January 16, 2004: Creative Services Software announced today they are delaying the release of PacTerm and PKTerm 3.0 for Windows for Kantronics and Timewave TNCs until they can resolve the issues from moving the source code to the new Microsoft Visual Studio.Net compiler. The programs are based around the Microsoft Richedit control. This control displays all the text in the program and just changing compilers made the program use a different richedit control and caused code that has worked for years to fail. Microsoft's richedit control updates have caused issues in the current release, on certain machines, causing text to be double spaced even though the TNC settings were set for single spacing.. This issue occurred after Microsoft released an updated Richedit control after the release of PacTerm/PKTerm 1.7. The issue is worked around in release 3.0. "Hams are waiting for release 3.0", said Rick Ruhl, W4PC, "since the new release will incorporate new soundcard modes, a logbook interface that includes radio control and a new user interface design, based on the input from hams who wanted all the windows in a single frame and wanted more 'Pc-PakRatt' like features." CSS will release version 3.0 after the issues are resolved and the program is put through a full beta test cycle.
