Press Release

CSS discontinues MultiComm Host for Packet and MultiComm Host Multimode TNC software.

Company cites low sales and firmware limitations as reason.

Muscle Shoals, Alabama. October 6, 2003:  Creative Services Software announced today they are discontinuing sales and support of the MultiComm Host for Packet and MultiComm Host Multimode products for MFJ TNCs. The company will continue to sell and support its PacTerm for Windows/Wefax products for the Kantronics TNCs and PKTerm for Windows/Wefax products for the AEA/Timewave line of TNCs.

CSS cites firmware limitations of the MFJ TNCs and low sales as the reasons for discontinuing the product. Unlike the Kantronics and Timewave TNCs, the MFJ series of TNCs didn't have a host mode for the HF modes and required turning the Mailbox off to go into Host Mode for Packet. Without the HF host mode, nonstandard techniques were required to be able to write the user interface code for the HF modes. Disabling the mailbox to go into the BLP Host mode limited the product with MARS and Packet BBS users.

CSS reported that the total sales of the MultiComm Host Products never paid for the development costs of the products.
