Viruses and FirewallsDid you know that you can get a computer virus by running programs downloaded from the Internet, running programs attached to your email, running Word or Excel documents, or even trading files with your best friend? Also if you don't have a firewall on your computer, a computer worm or trojan could be loaded on your system without your knowledge. Without a virus scanner it's hard to know when you have a virus on your system. You may notice that your computer isn't working like it should but otherwise there is no way to know. When it comes to viruses, worms, and trojan, an ounce of prevention really is the best bet. Make sure you have a current and updated virus scanner on your computer. It's not enough to have the software. You have to get the updates too. Most anti-virus programs update their software every week, sometimes more often. That's because there are new viruses being released all the time. Companies like McAfee, Symantec, ZoneLabs, and others have anti-virus and firewall software you can download from their web sites. Pick the best one for your circumstances. You won't be sorry. Oh and the next best thing to a virus scanner is a recent backup. You've backed up all of your important files recently, right?
